Strong Communication Is Essential for Success in Post-COVID-19 Future
Covid-19 is clearly an alarming, global health crisis. However, it has also proven to have detrimental social and economic impacts as well. In uncertain climates such as what we’re experiencing now, it is imperative to be transparent and communicative with your clients, your customers, your employees and your marketspace at large.
A joint study published Arlington Research and Media Frenzy Global found that 31% of U.S. Consumers assume that businesses that have gone quiet and don’t share company news during this pandemic are in financial trouble and due to this, they likely won’t spend with them in the future. Not surprisingly, 47% cited they are desperate to hear about non-COVID-19 news.
Accordingly, if you don’t formulate and communicate your own narrative, your clients and customers will start making assumptions that could be detrimental to your future success. We’ve all socially distanced personally – from friends and work associates. But when your clients and your marketspace doesn’t hear about what and how your business is doing; the launching of new services; refinement of services or products; trends in the industry; or the lack of providing commentary on this unprecedented environment, negative perceptions generally come to the forefront.
Some businesses believe that it’s safer to be silent. Wait things out. Wait until the market turns before launching a communications campaign. But in fact, doing so demonstrates decisive leadership and strength during challenging times. Demonstrate that your business is continuing to function at a high level; that your company and/or service are essential to the marketplace. This doesn’t translate into being insensitive to the social environment and the economic hardships being experienced by a broad swath of our nation. But rather, you are cognizant of the environment; compassionate to those that have been struck by the virus, but your business also remains a vital component of the economy and an imperative provider to your industry.
